#BizChatAL Interview with Mountain Lakes Chamber of Commerce

This week, we had the pleasure of being interviewed by the Mountain Lakes Chamber of Commerce on its business-focused Tweet Chat, #BizChatAL.

Mountain Lakes Chamber of Commerce is a private non-profit 501(c6) organization that partners with 600+ local businesses, organizations, and individuals who share its goal to advance the economic vitality and quality of life in Jackson County, Alabama. They help their local community by making meaningful connections that assist with the growth of local businesses and engage the community to enhance the general quality of life in support of a healthy economy.

Although Eagle Eye Outfitters isn’t directly part of the Jackson County community, Mountain Lakes Chamber asked to interview us on #BizChatAL after learning about the ways in which we strive to give back to our local community here in Dothan. Read our conversation below to learn what makes EEO successful here in Dothan and why we believe that giving back to the local community is so important.

When did Eagle Eye Outfitters get its start in Alabama?

Founded in 1999 by Mark & Susan Anderson as a small family clothing store w/ a few outdoor specific lines, we quickly found an exclusive niche in #DHN. By listening to our customers, we began to pursue the major brands that no other store in our area had carried b4.

What factors have contributed most to the Eagle Eye Outfitters success?

We have what we like to call the “Circle of Service” – 3 components make up this circle: our staff, customers, & community. We believe very strongly that people matter most. Pouring our hearts/time into these has contributed to our growing success over the 20 years.

Why is it so important for business to be involved in their community?

Your local community supports your business, and it’s time to return the favor. The health of your community has a direct impact on the health of your business, so get involved and all will prosper.

What are some creative ways for businesses to give back to their community?

Sponsor a fundraiser for a local non-profit, start a volunteer time off program (VTO), host a volunteer day for employees, offer donation matching, offer to be a drop off location for goods, highlight a local organization on your social media or blog.

What are some of the ways Eagle Eye Outfitters gives back?

We contribute by giving a % of our sales back into the community. Whether that be through VTO or sponsorships of local ministries, like @wiredweek and #dothanfca. Our staff plays a huge role in the success of our VTO Program.

What are the long-term business effects of giving back?

Building respect and a good reputation in the community, making your community a better place to live, and good employee morale is essential to a successful business… to name a few.
