Top Valentine’s Day Activities

Oh, Valentine’s Day. Can you picture it? A couple gathered around a dinner table, delighting themselves in a fancy meal while gazing into one another’s eyes. Children exchanging Valentines and candy to all of their friends. Red roses, balloons, and giant teddy bears filling the aisles at every store. Men running frantically around town for that perfect piece of jewelry, or card for the one they love. Heart decor lining the walls of school hallways and classrooms. Valentines is a day of love. It’s a time to cherish the ones who matter most to you. It’s a day for you to treat yourself, and someone you love to something special. Here are some fun ways that you and your special someone can spend Valentine’s Day 2018.

Huggin’ Molly’s located in Abbeville, Al. This quaint little restaurant will take you back in time as you dine on anything from burgers to sandwiches to steaks. The best part about Huggin’ Molly’s is their fabulous desserts that you must indulge in after your meal. Try one of their shakes, malts, or floats that will hit the spot just right. If you are feeling something extra sweet, try one of their brownies smothered in ice cream and hot fudge sauce. Huggin’ Molly’s would be a treat for you and your love on Valentines.

The Log Cabin located in Blakely, Ga. If you, or your special someone, love seafood this is the restaurant that you must experience. The Log Cabin is nestled about 20 miles east of Dothan in a very peaceful area. The distance may sound like a lot, but you can be assured that the drive is well worth it. Make sure that you take into consideration, if you live in central time zone, that you need to arrive at The Log Cabin around 30 minutes early (4:30 P.M. central time) if you are planning on getting there right when they open at 6:00 P.M. Take life outside. If, somehow, you got super lucky and are off of work for Valentine’s Day (or celebrating over the weekend), take your special someone to do something adventurous, or new that you both can enjoy. Get outside and enjoy God’s stunning creation.

Enjoy the outdoors on Valentine’s Day. You can easily do this by taking a walk, or a jog down the Forever Wild Trails or the trails at Westgate Park located here in Dothan. In between your walk, you can enjoy a picnic with the one you love at one of the many picnic spots along these trails. These trails are super peaceful and calming for you to leisurely walk through them. They are also great trails for biking if you enjoy that.

Callaway Gardens. This fun little spot is located in Pine Mountain, GA. Callaway Gardens is located about two and a half hours from Dothan. You will be intrigued right off the bat by Callaway Garden’s spectacular scenery, and soothing atmosphere. Callaway offers exciting tree top adventures, hiking and biking trails, a butterfly center, actual gardens you can tour, fishing, and lots more. You can also stay at Callaway Gardens overnight at their resort. Escape every day by visiting Callaway with your loved one for Valentine’s Day.

Cheaha State Park. If you are really up for an adventure and want to travel somewhere special to hike and enjoy the outdoors, this state park is the place for you. This state park is located about three and a half hours from Dothan and is surrounded completely by the Talladega National Forest. It is known as the highest point in Alabama, due to being located on top of Cheaha Mountain. Experience the breathtaking views and absolute tranquility at Cheaha State Park. There are many trails and nature walks that you can experience here. If you are looking to stay the night, or make a weekend of it, Cheaha State Park offers a resort onsite.

Here is some gear that you can take with you if you decide to take life outside for Valentine’s Day. The first picture features some ladies’ Vasque hiking boots. This boot, called the Breeze III specializes in being waterproof and very durable for hiking trails. They are the perfect neutral boot to go with your adventurous outfit.

The next boot featured is the Men’s Breeze III by Vasque. Like the ladies’ version of this boot, it specializes in being waterproof thanks to Gortex lining inside. It is a great boot to hit the trails in. Both of these boots do require a little breaking in, so be sure to get them in advance before your Valentines’ Day adventure.

Next on the list for any adventure is a good water bottle! Hydroflask bottles are insulated and keep liquids cold up to 24 hours, and hot up to 6 hours. They are durable and long-lasting. These water bottles are just what you need for a day spent hiking or site seeing.

The last piece of gear you will need for a day on the trail is a good backpack. The North Face makes many great options. This one shown is the Borealis. It has lots of cool features and would be great for a day of hiking. It also has a laptop sleeve inside, so you can use it for more than just a hiking adventure!

Other fun Valentine’s Day options. There are some fun, local options that you can partake in that are right here in the Wiregrass! Check out these ideas below!

X-treme Air Trampoline Park. Now, we understand that hearing this option at first may sound a little interesting, but we can assure you that this would be something fun and different. This huge, indoor trampoline park is relatively new to our area but has already made quite a big impact. This trampoline park also has a Ninja Course! Be sure to check out their black light special that starts at 9:00 P.M.

Bowling. This is always a go-to, fun option. To make this even better, Dothan Lanes offers $1 Game/Person, and $1 Shoe Rentals all day on Wednesdays. Isn’t it convenient that Valentines falls on a Wednesday this year? Spend your evening or afternoon bowling!
